Alzheimer’s research has been Dr. Khalid Iqbal’s lifelong passion. In 1974, he was the first scientist to describe the effects that Alzheimer’s disease had on the brain, and his current work focuses on the neurobiology of Alzheimer’s and other related disorders.

Dr. Iqbal is a Professor of Neurochemistry and the Chairman of Neurochemistry at the New York State Institute for Basic Research in Developmental Disabilities. For his pioneering contributions, he has received numerous awards including the Potamkin Prize for Alzheimer Disease research from the American Academy of Neurology, and the Zenith Award from the Alzheimer’s Association. In 2007, the Alzheimer’s Association established the Khalid Iqbal Lifetime Achievement Award for Alzheimer’s disease research.
