Dr. Clifford Jack is a professor of Radiology, and the Alexander Family Professor of Alzheimer’s Disease Research at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. But outside the lab, he can often be found playing jazz music in restaurants around Rochester. He’s a talented musician of over 25 years.
Inside the lab, his work lab focuses on brain imaging, aging, and dementia. His lab uses MRI and PET scanning to study the biology of the brain and causes of deterioration. The lab’s clinical imaging research is utilized by the Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Disease Patient Registry (Mayo Clinic Study of Aging) and is a critical source of information. Dr. Perry’s schematic depictions of biomarker changes in Alzheimer’s disease have become a staple slide at conferences on Alzheimer’s and in medical classrooms worldwide.
" We are advocating that the disease be defined by its neuropathology [of plaques and tangles], which is specific to Alzheimer’s, and no longer by clinical symptoms which are not specific for any disease.”
