Listed among Castle and Connelly's "American's Top Doctors", Maria Abreu, M.D., serves as the Director of the Crohn's and Colitis Center at the University of Miami. Abreu has published 90 peer-reviewed articles and is a frequent speaker at international conferences. In addition to serving in leadership roles with several professional societies, Abreu is actively involved in research examining topics such as the role of genetics and bacteria in IBD and predicting patients' response to medicine. She has more than 20 years of leadership experience in basic, translational and clinical research and mentoring. She is a nationally and internationally renowned physician-scientist in IBD and one of few academicians who has extensive experience in clinical IBD as well as basic science.
